Welcome to my special Day 31 post for the 30 Day Challenge all about Video Games! The original challenge comes from the Gaming Teacher Blog but I wanted to add in a special post to close out the month! I figured I would just list a few of my favorite games in general, ones that are entirely special to me. Many of these I’ve already talked about during this month’s challenge. That won’t stop me from gushing about them again though. I love these games to death and just want to share them with all of you.

Day 30 – A Game That You’re The Most Excited to Play

Guys, let me tell you something. There’s so many games that I am very excited to play and I try to secure as many games as possible for my collection that I know will bring me joy. But then…I remember I have no time to play anything right now hahaha.

Recently I have had a little extra time and was able to finally finish the story mode for Soul Caliber VI and I’m working on the story mode for My Hero Academia’s game…but it really takes time for me to invest in these bigger stories that I’m most excited to play because I want to focus all my free time on them but it’s just not feasible for me right now. I do hope with summer coming up and hopefully things winding down work-wise, I can spend some more time playing through some games though. And let me tell you that there’s one game at the top of my list that I’m most excited to play.

The Winner – God of War

Yes I know – it’s been out for more than a year! But dang it guys, like I said above I don’t have a lot of time to play games so my queue is long. Plus I was also trying to get through a replay of the older God of War games before I jumped into this one. I’ve almost completed my latest playthrough of 2, and just going to jump into 3 and then be done with it. No need for the side games xD

I remember watching the livestream for E3 2016 and this game led the charge for Sony’s conference. The orchestra revved up the score for the game and many of us were at the edge of our seats as we were then led into this presentation. This little boy is seen playing when we hear, “Boy!” We knew the voice well but until we saw his face we held our breath. From out of the shadows stepped Kratos and we could hear the audience erupt in applause as we realized we would be seeing a new installment in the God of War series.

The visuals I’ve seen for this game, the art, the music – everything looks and sounds so amazing. But I know I will need a good amount of free time to step into this game and give it the attention it deserves. Soon though. SOON!

And with that, we conclude Day 30 of my 30 Day Video Game Challenge! We made it to the end – well the end of this particular challenge done by the Gaming Teacher Blog. I’m actually going to add one more post tomorrow to keep it going with the month πŸ™‚ So stick around for that! And we’ll also be starting up a new challenge in June! This one will be all about Pokemon and I can’t wait to share that with everyone.

Day 29 – A Warm, Fuzzy Early Gaming Memory

Ok, lord knows I’ve shared this story enough throughout my blog but it’s my favorite memories that involve gaming. My grandpa loved Pac-Man. He and my grandma would buy these little arcade hookups just so they could play Pac-Man at home. And he’s the one who taught me how to play the game. There was a pizza place we would go to and there was a Pac-Man arcade cabinet there that we would play together while we waited for our food. It was such a wonderful way to spend time together and learn about something we both would end up cherishing.

My grandpa passed away several years ago in my freshman year of college and it was one of the hardest losses I’ve ever felt in my life. He was my hero and I miss him every damn day. But whenever I think about him, I always go back to those memories of us at the ball field or playing some Pac-Man in a pizza parlor. Those memories always bring a smile to my face and I will treasure them always.

And with that, we conclude Day 29 of my 30 Day Video Game Challenge! What’s a warm, fuzzy early video game memory you have? Let me know in the comments below or share your own video game challenge! Thanks for reading πŸ™‚

Day 28 – A Character You Wish You Could Cosplay As

When I was younger, I used to cosplay and go to conventions more frequently than I do now. I still go to events like MAGfest and I hope to make it out to RTX again in the next couple years, but all in all it’s just so much work for something to cosplay when it’s not really one of my big passions. Ocassionally I’ll go in my Appa onesie and chime yip yip or I’ll put forth the effort to do myself up in my Vanellope von Schweetz cosplay but all in all I just want to relax and have fun at conventions. But boy, if I did cosplay a specific character nowadays it’s hands down one character.

The Winner – Aloy from Horizon: Zero Dawn

220px-Aloy_(Horizon_Zero_Dawn)
Art of Aloy from Horizon: Zero Dawn

When Horizon: Zero Dawn finally came out, I jumped right into the game and fell in love. I don’t know if it was the robot dinosaurs running around or the storyline…no it was everything. I fell in love with everything about the game and I was hooked. And one of the biggest reasons I loved it so much was the main character: Aloy. She was a strong-willed badass of a woman who wanted to prove herself not for others but for herself. She wanted to find out where she belonged and wanted to be the best she could be. Nothing tied her down, not even the unknown world beyond what she was used to. And despite all the hardships that befell her, she kept going.

She ended up inspiring me and my buddy Taji to start an RP in the world of Horizon: Zero Dawn. I built my character Brim to be as headstrong and badass as she was. So yeah, I love Aloy – she’s probably one of my favorite heroines from games (she probably ties with Samus for top spot). And all the armor sets she has in the game would be hella fun to cosplay. Would I ever do it? Probably not. That’s a lot of work and I barely have enough time to write a blog post here and there in my free time XD not much time for me to focus on cosplays. Those who do are super troopers and they are all awesome and deserve all the praise in the world. You cosplayers kick ass and we see you πŸ™‚ keep on being amazing!

And with that, we conclude Day 28 of my 30 Day Video Game Challenge! What video game character would you want to cosplay as? Let me know in the comments below or share your own video game challenge. Thanks for reading πŸ™‚

30 Day Video Game Challenge – Day 27

Day 27 – A Game That You Play To Relax

Gaming in general I find to be very relaxing (unless it’s a rage quit type of game – from which I have been known to shout in anger and bail). I love games that I can just sit back and go through the motions, admiring the world or the characters, and just smile. Journey is like that especially, there’s nothing like meeting up with other travelers in the game and just dancing about in the desert. So what game do I like to play to relax? Well, the winner is from the same company as Journey.

The Winner – ABZU

abzu

I’ve always been fascinated with the world under the sea. In Abzu, you’re a diver who awakens floating in the ocean. You then begin to explore the surrounding sea, including ruins beneath the waves. And in your journey you get to see fish, whales, dolphins, sharks, and more swimming about. You can interact with manta rays, sun fish, whale sharks, just about everything around you. With another masterful arrangement for the soundtrack done by Austin Winroy, I could get lost in this game for hours just swimming along and playing with the fishes. I don’t need to progress in it, not when I could just sail along with the dolphins and sea turtles. The game itself has a very nice storyline which I don’t mind finishing again and again, but sometimes you just want to swim along in a virtual ocean.

30 Day Video Game Challenge – Day 26

Day 26 – Your Favorite Video Game Movie

Well if you ask those of us lurking about the internet which video game movie was actually good, many of us wouldn’t have many answers for you. It’s sort of the “video game film curse” that people talk about. If it’s a video game adaption, it’s not going to be good. I don’t think that’s true, I just think people expect too much going into them or the directors/team don’t typically stay true to source material when they are making that translation to film.

I love Mortal Kombat and the Silent Hill movies. It’s not a film but the Castlevania series on Netflix is AMAZING! Hell, people making content on YouTube do a lot of justice to our video game loves. Nathan Fillion did a great short film where he was Nathan Drake from Uncharted and it made me want a film more and more about our treasure hunting boy. But what takes the cake as my favorite? Well the answer changed recently with a little film that debuted this year…

The Winner – Detective Pikachu

Now here me out: the story and acting of this movie is pretty basic and follows a formula that is seemingly dumbed down for kids. But listen everyone, Ryan Reynolds voices a Pikachu addicted to solving mysteries and coffee. And this movie single-handedly proves that we can make live action Pokemon movies where the creatures don’t look terrible and out of place. They still look like Pokemon but blended to mesh with the real world. But not so blended in that they look unrecognizable from their game counterparts. They looked awesome!

detective pikachu screenshot

Seriously look at that Pikachu! He’s ADORABLE! And there’s no ands, if, or buts about it – that’s definitely a Pikachu. There wasn’t a single Pokemon that I saw in the movie that I couldn’t say what they were (some of the newer generations I don’t know the names real well but I knew what they looked like and could tell what they were). Only real complaint about the movie in terms of the creatures…not enough Eevees. We barely catch a glimpse of one and then it’s gone. Give me more of my cute baby Eevees dangit! They did give me allΒ  the Growlithes and Arcanines though – thank you for that Pokemon Company!

And yes, the acting is somewhat over-the-top and a lot of the plot is basically spoonfed to you by the characters to cater to younger audiences. But Justice’s character does eventually grow on me as he seems to fall more in line with the story. I do hope in future iterations, which it’s already been confirmed we’re getting a sequel and this will lead into more Pokemon movies like this, that they don’t dumb it down so much. Adults and kids alike are here and we can all jump onboard a hardcore action adventure with Pokemon battles galore. Give me giant rock snakes busting out of the ground, legendary dogs and birds battling it out, whatever you want to do to bring more battles to the movie. The battle scene in Detective Pikachu (ignore the acting here – it was so outlandish) was amazing! Especially the shoutout to Magikarp – MY BOY!

Detective Pikachu was still a fun ride even though it was predictable. And it shows that there’s a future for live action Pokemon. And leaving that theater with my Pikachu card made me really wish that I lived in a world where Pokemon existed. Bento would definitely be a Rockruff unless ya’ll give me a Shiba Inu Pokemon. NEXT GENERATION PLEASE!

And with that, we conclude Day 26 of my 30 Day Video Game Challenge! What’s your favorite video game movie? Let me know in the comments below or share your own video game challenge. Thanks for reading πŸ™‚
